WordPress background updates not working?

WordPress is our CMS of choice, and if you’re finding that the new feature in 3.7 to do background updates for minor point releases isn’t getting you to 3.7.1, try what we tried.

First, try installing Background Update Tester, a plugin that can give you more information about your server and environment. One of the more common issues we found on our client’s sites is the requirement of FTP credentials. You can sometimes get around this by adding a few lines to your wp-config file:

define('FTP_USER', 'username');
define('FTP_PASS', 'password');
define('FTP_HOST', 'localhost');

If you’re finding other workarounds or issues, use the comments below to clue others in.
